Yup, just uploaded all my photos from my camera onto the computer.. So I'm gonna post some of them here.
Chinese New Year
Spent the first day of Chinese New Year in Church.. And then went to ba nian. And got bombarded by everybody about questions like: "How's your A level?" or "Which course do you plan to take in University?" At least my sister was suffering with me too.
Seems to me that sometimes ba nian is about answering questions. When we're kids, they'll ask us "How's school?" or "How's your grade?". And then when you take a major exam they'll ask, " How's your A/O levels?", " Which course/ Uni you plan to go?".
And then when you do graduate from University, they'll ask, " Where do you plan to work? Which career path would you choose?"
And when you do carve out your career path, they'll ask: " So when would you get a girlfriend/ boyfriend?"
And when you do get a girlfriend/ boyfriend, they'll ask again: " So when are you planning to get married?"
And when you do get married, they'll ask: " So when are you planning to settle down and start a family?"
And when you do have a child, they'll ask, "So how do you plan to nurture your child? Piano? Violin? Ballet? Or some advance mental math class for genius babies?"
Of course, I'm just being very realistic here. But if you anticipate these questions beforehand, then you wouldn't feel awkward answering them.
I think these questions moves through stages. Something like chord progressions in piano or guitar. Namely:
Education--> Career --> Courtship --> Marriage --> Child
Anyway... The pictures for CNY:

This photo is abit dark though...

King... Princess... Queen... Maidservant no. 1 is taking the photo. Maidservant no.2 is taking the bags.
We went into Malaysia on the second day of CNY to visit relatives there. And Sabrina's god-parents there love cats so much, they specially set aside a room in their house for their pet cats. And the room have air-cons and toilet somemore...

Xing Fu De Mao.(but still caged up lah)

Sabrina and her god-parents.

Three of us.

Then on wednesday, had a CNY gathering with JC ppl... Had dinner at Sze Min's house.. Haha.. They were great hosts. Plenty of food abound, plus got vcds somemore. But its scary movie, so didn't really watch. And I saw Sze Min's nephew... So cute!! Haha.. But didn't take a photo of him. Sze Min said he would cry if I try to carry him.
Anyway, its pretty shocking to see the class guys with their hair all gone. Remembered how David used to be so particular about his 'esplanade' style hair. When I sat behind him for lectures, I can't see the bottom of the screen cos his hair was blocking, and I'll have to dart around his head. Something like the bhangra dance around the coconut tree?

But not everybody turned up. I would wish for a more complete class reunion where everyone is present.Hmmm... The next time would probably be our results collection day.

Why some longtime lovers look alike

Forget about opposites attracting. We like people who look like us, because they tend to have personalities similar to our own. And, a new study suggests, the longer we are with someone, the more similarities in appearance grow.
Researchers set out to investigate why couples often tend to resemble one another. They asked 11 male and 11 female participants to judge the age, attractiveness and personality traits of 160 real-life married couples. Photographs of husbands and wives were viewed separately, so the participants didn't know who was married to whom.
The test participants rated men and woman who were actual couples as looking alike and having similar personalities. Also, the longer the couples had been together, the greater the perceived similarities. The researchers speculate that the sharing of experiences might affect how couples look.
A biological reasonThe idea that there is a connection between appearance and personality might seem odd at first, but there could be biological reasons for a link, said study member Tony Little from the University of Liverpool in England.
"Testosterone is linked to masculine face shapes and it also affects behavior," Little told LiveScience. "Also, the face displays our emotions and over time emotional expressions may become written in the face."
For example, someone who smiles a lot may develop lines and muscles that are suggestive of someone who is happy. Other studies have shown that partners who are genetically similar to each other tend to have happier marriages. Similarities in personalities and physical features might be one way to gauge genetic similarity.
Smiles and eyesThe new study, to be detailed in the March issue of the journal Personality and Individual Differences, indicates that people home in on a variety of different features when using facial appearance to make decisions about someone's personality, and that the particular cues focused on change from face to face. Vital to the decision, however, are eyes and smiles.
"Smiles are important social cues that may tell us whether or not someone is friendly, and eyes are also a traditional focus of attention," Little said.
Okay, this is a little wierd. Lovers looking alike? Hmmm... So I suppose I'll have to look out for a good looking other half so that I can be prettier? Hahaha... No lah.. What matters is the inside... Not the Outside..
"It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart."

Music Therapy
Music therapy is the controlled use of music under the guidance of trained music therapists to help people overcome problematic conditions or behaviors and to achieve therapeutic ends.
I think music therapy really works. Not that I tried that it before. But Music can really connects with your emotions and thoughts. Certain music I listen to will make me feel better if I've been sad or angry. Haha.. Like piano or intrumental or gospel music. And then there are some music that will make me feel very energized, like rock music (linkin park and such).
So this entry would be on relaxation exercise using music. Hope you people would try it.
- Sit comfortably.
- Take in full breaths. Inhaling deeply and fully as you can.
- Close your eyes.
- As you continue to breath in and out, you can feel yourself relaxing and expanding.
- Continue to relax. Be aware of the music.
- Release tension as you exhale like how you would release a balloon into the sky.
- Imagine a place you always liked. The beach/ forrest/ garden / lake.
- Listen to the music and imagine walking through the place you like.
Yup.. That's about it.. But I found out a flaw in this exercise. Like in point 3, you're supposed to close your eyes right? How could people follow the further instructions on the screen while closing their eyes?
Okay, but i found a website which provide audio relaxation exercises. Try it out.
Guided Relaxation Exercise
I think music is very important. Maybe people take music for granted that it is always there. But I can't imagine my life without music. Its almost as if life have lost its colour. It would be boring.
Music evoke feelings and thoughts that words can't describe and pictures can't paint.
I respect musicians a lot. Especially those who compose their own music. Beethoven, to me is the greatest composer.
At the peak of his musical career, he lost his sense of hearing. And to a musician, the sense of hearing is everything; music is sound itself being manipulated.
A musician who can't hear is like a painter who can't see or a singer without voice.
But Beethoven, despite his handicap, went on to compose great music. He might not had physically heard his composition being played by the orchestra but I'm sure he had heard the music in his mind. And perhaps, the music in his mind would be stronger and more perfect than the music the orchestra had played.
So I think Beethoven is the greatest composer. Of course, there are many more composers who had composed other beautiful music. Bach, Mozart, Debussy... But Beethoven had composed with what he didn't have.
He composed out of sheer talent, determination and perserverance.

Lalita filled up two jugs with water. The volume of water in the first jug was 20% more than the volume of water in the second jug. If the first jug contained 900ml , how much water was there in the second jug?
~~~~~~~~~~*****~~~~~~~~~~~~
Think this is an easy question? Try it for yourself. Is your water in second jug 720ml or 750 ml? If you have 720ml, its because you took the second jug to be 80% and the first jug to be 100% (20% more).
100% ----> 900ml
80% -----> 900/ 100% X 80%
= 720 ml
Yet, however, if you take 120% for the first jug and 100% for the second jug (20% more), you'll get 750ml.
120% ----> 900ml
100% ----> 900/120% X 100%
= 750ml
~~~~~~~~*****~~~~~~~~~~~
Now the problem is not how much water second jug contain, but is the second jug 80% or 100% of the first jug?
Okay, the first thought that came to my mind is of course 80%. I dun know why, but I just took the second jug to be 20% less of the first jug to be 80%.
But you see, if you have 20% more than me, and I have $100. You would have $120 right? Then in this situation, I took my $100 to be 100% and you would have 120%.
So how much water does the second jug contains exactly? 720 ml or 750ml?

Oh, and this was Sabrina's Primary Six math question.

Playing a violin with three strings
On Nov 18 1995, Itzhak Perlman, the violinist, came on stae to give a concert at Avery Fishery Hall at Lincoln Centre in New York City.
If you have ever been to a Perlman concert, you know that getting on stage is no small achivement for him. He was stricken with polio as a child, and so he has braces on both legs and walks with the aid of two crutches. To see him walk across the stage one step at a time, painfully and slowly, is an awesome sight.
He walks painfully, yet majestically, until he reaches his chair. Then he sits down, slowly, puts his crutches on the floor, undoes the clasps on his legs, tucks one foot back and extends the other foot forward. Then he bends down and picks up the violin, puts it under his chin, nods to the conductor and proceeds to play.
By now, the audience is used to this ritual. They sit quietly while he makes his way across the stage to his chair. They remain reverently silent while he undoes the clasps on his legs. They wait until he is ready to play.
But this time, something went wrong. Just as he finished the first few bars, one of the strings on his violin broke. You could hear it snap - it went off like gunfire across the room. There was no mistaking what that sound meant. There was no mistaking what he had to do.
We figured that he would have to get up, put on the clasps agaon - to either find another violin or else find another string for this one. But he didn't. Instead, he waited for a moment, closed his eyes and then signalled the conductor to begin again.
The orchestra began, and he played from where he had left off. and he played with such passion and such power and such purity as they had never heard before.
Of course, anyone knows that it is impossible to play a symphonic work with just three strings. I know that and you know that, but that night Itzhak Perlman refused to know that.
You could see him modulating, changing, recomposing the piece in his head. At one point, it sounded like he was de-tuning the strings to get new sounds from them that they had never made before.
When he finished, there was an awesome silence in the room. And then people rose and cheered. There was an extraordinary outburst of applause from every corner of the auditorium. We were all on our feet, screaming and cheering, doing everything we could to show how much we appreciated what he had done.
He smiled , wiped the sweat from his brow, raised his bow to quiet us, and then he said - not boastfully, but in a quiet, pensive, reverent tone - "You know, sometimes its the artist's task to find out how much music you can still make with what you have left."
Perhaps that is the definition of life - not just for the artists, but for all of us. Here is a man who has prepared all his life to make music on a violin of four strings, who, all of a sudden, in the middle of a concert, finds himself with only three strings; so he makes music with three strings, and the music he made that night with just three strings was more beautiful, more sacred, more memorable, than any that he had ever made before, when he had four strings.
So, perhaps our task in this shaky, fast-changing, bewildering world in which we lived is to make music, at first with all that we have, and then, when that is no longer possible, to make music with what we have left.
